Veneers are very thin pieces of specially shaped porcelain, which are glued over the front of patient’s teeth. Little or no anesthesia is needed for veneers to be applied to teeth and because Dr. Mafi believes in natural dentistry, she uses only the highest quality non-toxic materials in your mouth.
Applying Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Mafi partners with her patients in San Diego, involving you in each step of the process.
First, Dr. Mafi will take a mold of your teeth, from which the veneers are modeled after. Once she creates a custom porcelain veneer for you, it will then be glued directly onto your tooth. Dr. Mafi will place the veneers with water or glycerin onto your teeth to verify their perfect fit, shade and color. The color of the veneer cannot be changed after they are adhered to your teeth, so be careful to observe your veneers in the office light and in natural lighting so you’ll have a better idea what they’ll look like outside the dental office. Dr. Mafi then cleanses your tooth with chemicals to achieve a durable bond. Once the glue is between the veneer and your tooth, a light beam is used to harden the glue or cement.
Veneers usually cost less than crowns. Furthermore, porcelain veneers won't stain. They are strong, very durable and porcelain veneers last from 10-15 years.

Porcelain veneers are perfect for teeth that are too big or small, or have uneven surfaces.
